Although I didn’t do primary or initial look on most parts of the Avalonia city, there was a lot of shot and variant work that I handled given that I rolled on later and other artists left the show. Ryan Smith was the initial look artist for the above set. I worked on creating the paths around the city plaza, applying the central Geo Society logo, and updating the look of various areas based on shot angles such as walls, roofs, and handling other requests from the Art department. Even if an initial look is working, final camera angles and lighting can necessitate a lot of changes.
The wall patterns and stairs needed to be adjusted with these low down angles, along with custom dirt textures. You can also see some of the hexagonal geometric details on the plaza surface.
This area needed more detailed foreground texturing for the curbs, ground, and trees, as well as more detailed versions of the horse carts with paint variations.
This apartment area also needed its own unique variant, and the outside of the apartment needed to be uniquely retextured to hold up. On screen right you can see a higher resolution tree I textured, along with grass added in its curbside planter. The door and the inside of the apartment was also a new set. I also textured the flowers.
This fun flashback variant also required the ground to look more like dirt, along with some other changes, like having old style horse carts and the broken wheel, which I textured. You can also see a fountain in the back with added decorative elements.
